ABOUT CLOSETS

  • Closets are physical locations within buildings that Teen Clean Closet stocks with everyday hygiene products. As of 2023 our most used items are the essentials. Shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, body wash and period products.

    Here is a list of all items available in Closets. This list varies per location due to some Closets not using certain items as much as others.

    • shampoo/conditioner (for all hair types)

    • body wash

    • deodorant

    • skin care products

    • toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss

    • period products

    • nail care items

    • hair styling products

    • gels, hairbrushes, combs and accessories

    • lip care products

    • laundry supplies

  • As of 2024 there are 6 Closets in total.

    • Royal Oak High School

    • Hazel Park Library

    • Churchill Community High School

    • Metro Detroit Youth Club

    • Royal Oak Public Library

    • Royal Oak Senior Community Center

    School based Closets are only available to students or those who attend those schools. The Royal Oak Public Library, Hazel Park Library and the RO Senior Center Closets are available to the public at large.

  • Generally, kids will learn about Closets from adults. Whether it's teachers, secretaries, or employees. Adults in these buildings are encouraged to tell kids about Closets and assist them in gaining access. Everything is done discretely to ensure any child or young adult who uses any Closet has their privacy fully respected.

  • We do not collect any information on the individuals using Closets, such as financial status, age, gender etc. Closets are open access to anyone who needs them.

  • Yes, we don’t have a usage limit, however everything is within reason. Closets are frequently visited and restocked. Students who indicate a need for further assistance may also be referred to additional community resources.

  • Absolutely. While we don't monitor the use of the public Closet we do encourage visitors to only take what they need. Our hope is that people using the Closet will be mindful that there are others using it as well. For other local resources, check out our community resources page.

ABOUT EVENTS

  • Yes, if you’re a business or non-profit that would like a guest speaker for an event in the Royal Oak area. Contact us by email TeenCleanCloset@gmail.com or by Facebook private message if you’re interested.
